The Historic Sanford Welcome Center is one of the many historic buildings in downtown. The building was constructed in 1917 as a United States Post Office and has an intact original facade and two original lamp posts. James Wetmore was the supervising architect for the building. In 1962, a new post office was opened nearby and the bulding then became the Sanford library. The Classical Revival building is constructed of red pressed brick trimmed in Georgia sandstone. The building now houses the welcome center which serves as the communications hub for Sanford. If you are visiting Sanford for the first time drop on in and you will be greeted by friendly staff who can suggest how to spend your day or answer any questions you may have. Our welcome center is filled with art from local artists and we also offer a wide selection of souvenirs to remind you of the time your visit in Sanford. |
